A Tel-Aviv based computer vision company raised $3.1M for its in-car sensor. The company, Guardian Optical Technologies, developed a camera technology to detect motion in the micrometer range. The team’s goal is to improve passenger safety while keeping costs down. The sensor records high resolution video and generated 3D depth maps of the interior of the car. The system uses machine learning to estimate the size of passengers and therefore enabling features such as adjusting the force of an airbag in case of an accident. Because this system can replace several other sensors that already exist inside cars, the expectation is to save on overall cost for the manufacturer.
